The Roanoke Children’s Theatre Internship Program offers a rich and challenging experience for qualified high school, college students, graduates and young professionals who are actively pursuing careers in professional theatre. RCT internships are excellent springboards into a professional career in the arts. Internships are offered in Theatre Education, Stage Management & Technical Theatre, and Development & Administration. Limited Performance internships are available by audition only (Call 540-400-7795 to schedule appointment or attend our annual open call). All interns will be integrally involved in the daily operations of the theatre. Interns will also have the opportunity to explore their unique interests by working in departments that best match the needs of the theatre and their goals.
Theatre Education: Interns will assist lead directors in the running of our various theatre camps, RCT All-Star production, workshops, and partnership with the Boys & Girls Club and Smith Mountain Lake Good Neighbors Program.
Stage Management & Technical Theatre: Interns will work with and assist our professional staff in assistant stage-managing, props, run crew, costumes, lights, load in and strike of our current show. Opportunities to design and stage manage camp showcases and shows may be available depending on the experience of applicant.
Development and Administration: Interns will be involved with social networking, special events, fundraising, house management & volunteer coordination, preparing materials for Board meetings, filing, box office, publicity, and group sales.Back to Top
The Internship will begin with an orientation to introduce you to Roanoke Children’s Theatre, our staff, and the other interns.
Interns will be educated on the mission of the Roanoke Children’s Theatre and the expectations and opportunities of our programs. All interns will have the opportunity to attend and participate in the current production, attend workshops as offered, participate in a mentorship program, and receive an reference letter for future endeavors (after successful completion).
RCT is committed to providing interns with structured and substantive experiential learning. Interns meet regularly with their mentors to receive feedback on previous work and guidance on current projects, and to discuss career interests and options.
