Favorite Non-Profit: Roanoke Children’s Theatre

Pat, my niece and I adored “Rapunzel”—it was such fun to watch all the children around us as they really got into the story.

Toby and I so enjoyed Sunday’s performance of RAPUNZEL. You hit another one out of the park! The production was cleverly staged and imaginatively acted. What fun to watch not only the show but also the reactions to the show by kids in the audience. You and your cast enchanted us all!

One of my students is a 12-year-old girl who has been learning English for a while...in our lesson, I used a Readers' Theatre script of "A Bad Case of Stripes" and IT WORKED!! She read the lines in all different funny character voices, asked questions about the vocabulary to help her comprehension, and completely understood the plot and moral by the time we finished our read-through...I am SO thankful for my work with RCT...I have no doubt that I will use so much of what I learned from you and the RCT family in my future career as an educator.

Just had to write to let you know how much I enjoyed the performance of Madeline’s Christmas last night. The cast was wonderful and so talented. It is so refreshing to see these young folks taking the time to study and perform for others to enjoy. So many children today are only interested in themselves with too many cellphones, video games and the whole social media game. Seeing the performances at the Roanoke Children’s Theater renews my faith in the young folks today. This was my fourth time attending the shows and I have enjoyed every one of them. THANKS for your hard work and dedication. I am glad my daughter and I decided to attend the performances. Even though we do not have young children, we still enjoy the experience and look forward to many more shows.

I took my 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son to the opening night of Narnia-their first real theatre production. They were mesmerized! What a performance! Both of them were star struck by the meet and greet with the actors after the show. Please tell your actors and everyone else involved that they gave my children a night they will always remember.

The Secret Life of Girls was a tremendous play. I have heard nothing but positive comments. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Our group of 35 adults and kids who attended Velveteen Rabbit had the time of their lives. Again, more than half had never been to a production of any kind. My favorite part was three really burly guys with bulging muscles and lots of tats sat there with their arms folded...a real hard sell...but within ten minutes were 100% focused on the story and the music and the great set and costumes.

We have partnered with RCT several times this year and the results have been fantastic. The RCT offers high quality performances that really relate to our students. The performances have been targeted and have really reached our students in new ways. … I look forward to working with the RCT in the future.

A friend and I saw Charlotte’s Web yesterday. It was one of the best productions we’ve ever seen in the Roanoke Valley.

[Shrek, the Musical] was absolutely fantastic! I giggled throughout the whole play and the kids loved it.

The students’ response to The Secret Life of Girls was phenomenal. Many thanks to RCT for making it possible for every 6th grader to attend.

After we left the production of Pinkalicious yesterday, my 11 and 9-year-old daughters and I were talking about how many RCT performances we have attended. My younger daughter sighed and said I wish we could go back and see them ALL...just one more time! Thank you for all you do!

We loved Go, Dog Go! It was absolutely fabulous. We had a huge crowd and they were sitting all over EVERYWHERE to get to see the performance. Please let the players know how much we loved it and let us know if you have a touring show for next summer. We want to be on your list. I just wanted to tell you that we are loving your program. It is great to see the children engaged and learning something new and different. I hope this is just the beginning and that we will be able to continue this educational program and add even more next year.

Go and see this [an RCT Production] and I can guarantee that it will make you, whether an teenager or adult, reconsider how you communicate. But don’t tell anyone - it’s our secret.

This play isn’t just for children….our girls loved it but my husband and I enjoyed it just as much as they did.
